QUEUE LINE DESIGN

This design is for an imaginative “How to train you dragon” ride. In order to have a substantial environment to design, we are suggested to pick an already excited attraction as a reference. In my imagination, the “How to train you dragon ride” would be like this:

AREA: around 60,000sf (like “under the sea” ride in Disney magic kingdom)

THRC:2000

Ride Type: Like “Pirates of the Caribbean”

Vehicle type: Viking boats

Vehicle capacity: 12 people

Vehicle dispatch interval: 20 sec

Waiting Area per person: 4sf

Therefore

Half Hour queue area: 1000*4 = 4000sf

THE SITE

To make the experience of waiting a little bit better, I add 500sf to both main queue, extended queue and the indoor queue, then started to design the pre-story of the ride.

THE SITE AND MASTER PLAN

The story of “How to train your dragon” (the first movie) mainly tells a story of how do the Viking dragon fighters turn into dragon riders. Therefore, before the ride begin, we need to let people know the terrible relationship between the dragons and Vikings; but at the end of the ride, we must show people a whole new Viking world with the Vikings and dragons finally became friends.

To make the queue interesting and recognizable, I took some stunning scenes from the movie and arrange them into the queue line. People can learn about the characters in the Viking village section, and know about the dragons though finding hints in the wild landscape sections. Finally, people will be gathered in the meeting hall and ready to sail.

THE QUEUE DESIGN

After the brainstorming and comprehensive consideration. I designed a queue line appear to be a Viking island which contains different manmade and nature landscapes for people to explore.

THE EXPERIENCE

DETAILS

I also put many interactive idears into the queue. Check out the presentation file to discover them!
