SUPER MARIO MINIGOLF COURSE

PLAY THE MINIGOLF COURSE AS IF YOU ARE MARIO BROTHERS

This is probably the most challenging project to me, because I’ve got completely no experience in golf and mini-golf. But on the other hand, this provide me a chance to create a mini-golf course which is different from others.

I started from researching the super Mario game history and I found it just too many versions of it. But most of the game have the similar story, that is save the princess (or mushrooms) from Donkey Kong or Bowser.

DIFFERENT LEVEL, DIFFERENT LANDSCAPE

In most of the Mario games, they usually start with blue sky and green grass, then as the level grows up, the landscape changes to the cave, under water or the volcano. I decide to put all of these four different kinds of landscapes into the design.

POWER UP!

There are many of hidden elements in Mario games, such as mushrooms, flowers and stars. By eating these, Mario will gain specific power form it. The unknown elements, various of the enimies and the power up system added lots of playability to the games.

THE CONCEPT SKETCH

Taken all into consideration, I sketched a mini-golf playground will different landscape and all the elements in it.

THE SITE

The professor asked us to choose a location to put out golf course. I put it on a place near the cinema, food court and the outlets, therefore people can play the mini-golf game while they are waiting for the movie or after they done the shopping.

THE MASTER PLAN

Then I turned the sketch into a master plan. The castle in the center is the service center, people can buy tickets and get all the equipment here. On the south of the castle, there are nine out door mini-golf course spread out on a large area of green grass. You can also find many pipes and cylinder shape hills looks just like being taken from the game.

The north area of the castle raises up a little bit, because all the nine courses are hidden under the ground. On the ground floor, a river is flowing down from the lake at the north-west; on the north-east, there stands a volcano.
