OCEAN CRISIS

AN INTERACTIVE GAME SERIES ON THE CRUISE TRIP

I met a little boy in my first cruise trip. He impressed me so much because he was always playing his PSVITA during the trip while others are enjoying, and he was wearing a pair of huge myopic lens galsses. After the trip, I kept thinking of designing a better cruise tour experience for the kids in his age, and this design is my solution.

RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

I started from researching cruise lines and the interests of the kids. I found that  series games are perfectly fits the cruise trip; because people on the cruise are isolated from the out side world, so that they can focus on the events happened on the trip. Since people have plenty of the destination to go during the day time, the events can be held at night, which guarantees better lighting effects to be used in the game.

THE GAME AND THE STORY

To make the game series exciting, I think it’s a good idea to put a storyline on it. In addition, by adding some competition and cooperation elements, the game become a show, and it could entertain both the players and the audience. Since the number of the players are limited, a prescreening must be done at the beginning, too. Finally, I decide to borrow some plots form Marvel’s Avengers movie and make it a sample to illuminate the idea, then I created a story chart for the seven days event.

LETS BEGIN

This game start at the beginning of the cruise trip. At the entrance, all the kids will receive a card (or toy) with smart trip with their information. They can insert them into the machine in front of the hero’s showcase wall to vote for the hero they like. The computer will choose the volunteers; the chosen ones are going to the specific location on the cruise to accept the mission of the first day. The mission would be small games or puzzles depends on the heros they vote for at the beginning. The winner will get the chance to the next level of the game.

IT'S ALL ABOUT TEAMWORK

The winner of the first game will be arranged into several teams; then they are going to face a team versus game. This would be like parkour game or American Ninja show; depend on the story, the contents and details could be different.​

THE CRISIS

As the game goes on, the story is moving forward, too. In this section, the bad guy shows up and mind-control some people just as Loki did in the movie. To make the game more dramatic, the selected ones being mind-controlled could be the players’ parents or other family member whom wants to play the next game. In this story, the team need to chase the bad guy into a indoor shooting game field, and the interactive shooting game started.​

THE FINALGAME

After many days of intense competition games, the cruise trip has almost meet the end. At the end of the story, all the players and audience should have chance to enjoy a relaxed and cheerful final game. All of them are going to defeat the final boss, a huge water spitting machine on the deck together. At the end, the winners will be awarded with limited version of gifts and the game will end up with the celebration which full of delicious food, beautiful fireworks, music and dance. The winners will be awarded with limited version of gifts.
