THEME PARK OF KUNGFU PANDA
RESEARCH AND DESIGN FOR THESIS
The concept of this design is mainly based on the stories, characters, environment, art, and sets in the Kung Fu Panda movies 1,2 and 3. The stories in these movies are the foundation and backbone of the theme park design. Therefore, analyzing the plot of the story and finding the potential scene that could be used in the theme park design is essential.
In this design, my personal hope is to create a world class theme park that encompasses a wondrous assortment of marvelous attractions and amenities. Families and groups, couples and kids will be able to spend days filled with delight exploring the parks' many immersive rides, shows, and activities.
STORY AND MASTER PLAN
LAND OF PEACE VALLEY:
The land that mainly brings into reality the scenes of Jade Palace, Dragon Grotto and Village of Peace. The attractions in this area tell the story of How Po met Kung Fu and became the dragon warrior;
LAND OF GONGMEN CITY:
Gongmen City is the stage of the second Kung Fu Panda movie, and this land recreates the magnificent scene of that setting. The attractions in this land should be exciting enough to lleave people with a great impression of the largest city in the movie.
LAND OF SECRET VILLAGES:
Other than the village in Peace Valley, there are other beautiful and interesting villages in the movies. These include the Musician villages in Kung Fu Panda 2 and the secret panda village in Kung Fu Panda 3. The Musician village could be a great attraction that tells the stories of Chinese traditional music, and the secret panda village could be a funny spot to meet pandas and tell the story of the spirit realm.
LAND OF VILLAINS:
Villains are important to the stories told in the Kung Fu Panda movies. In this land, the visitors will have the opportunity to explore the bad guys’ lives.
CONCEPT ART OF THE ATTRACTIONS
TYPE: Roller Coaster THRC: 2200 RIDE VEHICLE: 18 seats coaster Experience: Visitors will cross the whole Gongmen city at an extremely high speed in this ride. Notes: 1.The queue starts in the prison of Gongmen city, based on the story. 2.The rollercoaster will go inside some of the buildings with props and comedic scenes.
TYPE: Dark ride THRC: 1800 RIDE VEHICLE: 8-seat sedan train Experience: In this ride, the visitors will listen to master Shifu ’s story of how he survived from teaching Po and finally found his inner peace. Notes: 1.Queue Starts at the Dragon Grotto (the place where ShiFu usually meditates) 2, About a 12 min. ride. The train will stops in some key scenes for storytelling.
TYPE: Turbo Drop THRC: 2000 RIDE VEHICLE: 24 seats (3 seats a side, 8 sides) Experience: The best thing about this ride is that you don’t need to climb the stairs by yourself. But when you meet Lord Shen at the top, you’ll regret you have reached the top. Notes: 1.When rising slowly, visitors can see Po climbing the stairs painfully, exasperated and out of breath. 2. When reaching the top, the seats will turn and let visitors face the top. Each sides of the seats will drop separately.
